Campbell & Co Architects are the young forward-looking architects behind the Coffee With An Architect events at Ralph James Estate Agents. James Campbell set up the practice a year ago when he moved from working in London and was joined earlier this year by Sophie Griffiths (“I’ll have to change my surname to Co,” she quips).
“Reigate is a beautiful place to live,”she says. “Perfect size, countryside… but also restaurants, cafes, shops, many events in Priory Park, the North Downs at the top of Reigate Hill and a brilliant small business community. Reigate is fast becoming the hub of this part of Surrey and it’s got a real buzz to it.” The fast commute to London for meetings and Gatwick being nearby mean Sophie is also buzzing – about Reigate!
Alongside their work on schools and larger housing schemes, James and Sophie love small residential projects and working with existing buildings. So they approached Ralph James to collaborate in hosting a number of Coffee With An Architect mornings, where homeowners, buyers or searchers can learn about the process of refurbishing, planning, building an extension or even a bespoke new build.
“Good architecture improves health and happiness and enhances the environment we live in,” Sophie says. “Extensions and refurbishments change lives – it’s exciting. Often people come to us for help at a time of need, and it’s great to be able to play a part in improving their lives.”
The lengthy process and the responsibility of creating those dream spaces calls for commitment and trust: “It’s a special feeling when someone chooses to put their trust in us and we take that very seriously. Home improvements can be a significant investment, so it is wonderful to visit a completed home and see the positive impact of a project on someone’s life.”
