Residents of Reigate have their very own slice of the Mayfair art scene since Clarendon Fine Art opened in December 2020. Clarendon’s flagship gallery on Dover Street holds one of world’s most exclusive postcodes and is perhaps the most elegant place to see contemporary art in London.

Anna Lucas is the manager and fine art dealer at Clarendon’s boutique gallery on Reigate’s High Street. From here she provides works to locals seeking contemporary paintings and sculptures from some of the art world’s most talented emerging artists and influential names.

Born in Reigate, Anna always held an interest in art and studied at the BRIT school before going on to the University of the Arts. After graduating, she worked in TV and media as a makeup artist for a few years until she got her first gallery job.

Since then, she’s worked in a number of galleries across Surrey and London, most recently in Wimbledon Village. But it was the chance to return to Reigate and bring Clarendon Fine Art to her hometown that really excited her, and managing the branch has allowed Anna to get back to her roots while working in an industry she loves.

Speaking about opening the gallery, Anna says: “I grew up in Reigate and jumped at the chance to introduce the community to Clarendon. Reigate has an incredible love for art, with several galleries exhibiting local artists as well as international names.”

Clarendon Reigate is Anna’s pride and joy, and she loves working with local residents to find art for their homes. Speaking about that personal connection with clients, she says: “I’ll always offer to visit with the painting to ensure the piece is absolutely perfect, which means I get to know their tastes, passions, families – even their dogs!”

The joy comes from working the live art market to source and recommend the finest work. Some people fall in love with a piece on the gallery wall, while others work with her over many months to build a collection.

“I’ve found there’s a real mix of interests. Some clients want contemporary works like Mr Brainwash and Marco Grassi, while others are interested in the investment of 20th-century modern masters such as L.S Lowry, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Joan Miro”.

She loves the enthusiasm for art in the area and the community at large, but would like to see more art fairs championing local artists. In the meantime, the residents of Reigate are lucky enough to have the flair and style of a West End art gallery right on the doorstep.
