Taking over the tenancy of the former Nutfield Post Office in October 2014, Joe Chandler has since transformed the building into a sociable neighbourhood hub with a homeware store, coffee shop, fitness studio and beauty rooms on site.

Qualifying as a graphic designer just in time for the global financial crisis, Joe realised pretty quick that, if he was to have a successful business, he needed another idea. His eureka moment came in, of all places, The Belfry shopping centre in Redhill, where he thought he might do well selling home accessories from a kiosk on the concourse. He was right, and Chickadee was born. It now operates from 5 stores in Surrey, including an outlet at OldPost.

You can peruse your next purchase while waiting for, or consuming, something from the café – breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea – and you can work off your accrued calorific intake at a spin class or personal training session run by Fitness Academy. You can even get your nails done and have a massage.

As if that weren’t enough, OldPost is also something of a local start-up space, with onsite offices spaces let to graphic design and IT support companies, who get what is perhaps the best and most lifestyle based working environment in the neighbourhood.
