Max’s Kitchen is the first business venture of Maxwell Mckenzie – a cafe selling baguettes, barista coffees and cakes. Opening its doors three years ago, the idea was sparked by a chat between Max and his father, who already had a business on the Holmethorpe Estate, about creating a local place for people to eat without trekking into the middle of Redhill.
Max’s food crush is the homemade burger, a favourite among his patrons. “Homemade products are at the heart of what we do and this makes us different in a crowded lunch market. We have numerous competitors within a few hundred metres so we have to offer something alternative. We make everything ourselves and our customers love it as our menu is always changing.”
Max’s Kitchen is open weekdays 8am to 3pm, which might leave you wondering if Maxwell spends the rest of his time with his feet up at home. Not so much. He is, as a rule, entrenched in his catering company, Salted Events, and has another new venture already in the pipeline. You might say his plate is positively jammed packed in supplying plentiful first-rate fodder to Redhill locals.
